Teresa Kaczorowski Teresa Kaczorowska, PhD
- a journalist, writer, poetess, and co-worker of Pultusk Academy of Humanities.

Born in Suwalszczyzna, Poland, Teresa Kaczorowska now lives in Ciechanów, situated in the northern part of the Mazovia region. She is a graduate of the Maria Konopnicka Liceum in Suwałki, the University of Warmia and Mazury and Warsaw University, where she studied Journalism and Latin American Culture respectively. She worked as a journalist for Gazeta Wyborcza for ten years, the Mazowsze edition, with the Polish Radio, the Warsaw Television Centre and numerous newspapers: Nowa Europa (New Europe) and Prawo i Gospodarka (Law and Economy). Her texts also appeared in: Sztandar Młodych, Nowa Wieś, Reporter, Gazeta Wyborcza, Karta, Związkowiec (Toronto), Gazeta Lwowska (Lvov Newspaper), Studia Polonijne (KUL Lublin). Currently she publishes regularly in Kronika Mazowiecka (Mazovia Chronicles, Warsaw), and Biały Orzeł (White Eagle, Boston). Since 1999 she has been editing a periodical Ciechanowskie Zeszyty Literackie (Ciechanóv Literary Notebooks).

An author of 10 books: Uprooted From Nests (1997); Dream Rivers Will Not Flow Away (1998); In the Shade of the Araucaria Tree. Meetings with the Brazilian Polonia (2000); When You Are Here, It Hurts Less… (2003) and They Start the Fires of Memory (2005). The last two positions concern the Katyń Massacre. When You Are Here, It Hurts Less… has just been translated into English and published in the United States as Children of the Katyn Massacre, and now it is being translated into Russian in Russia. Her latest books are: Maciej Kazimierz Sarbiewski SJ na Mazowszu (2005), A Daughter of the Mazovian Plains. Maria Skłodowska-Curie from Mazovia (2007), Herodotus of the American Polonia. Mieczysław Haiman (1888-1949)(2008), „Maria Konopnicka and Ciechanovia's Land” (2010). Her primary interests lie in the issue of the Polish emigration, which explains why four of her books deal with the fate of Poles in exile.

Kaczorowska published 4 volumes of poetry: A Touch of Truth (2002), With a Nightingale at Sole (2004), Four Springs (2008) and For Wanda (2009). Her poems, for which she has received numerous awards and prizes, have been translated into English, Portuguese, Norwegian, German, Ukrainian, and Lithuanian and printed in literary publications both in Poland and elsewhere. Her literary texts have appeared, among others, in Poezja dzisiaj (Poetry Today) , Przegląd Powszechny, Twórczość, in several anthologies and almanacs, e.g. Mimo milczenia (Warsaw 2002), Contemporary of Poland (USA 2005), Według poety (Warsaw 2006), Słowa bielsze od śniegu (Wrocław 2006) and Jan Paweł II we wspomnieniach polsko-niemieckich (Dortmund, Katowice 2006). She is a member of The Literary Association in Mazovia and The Polish American Poets Academy (USA).

In years 2001-2008 Kaczorowska worked on Mieczysław Haiman (1888-1949) - a Polish-American poet, journalist, writer, and the first historian among the American Polonia, who, in 1935, established The Polish Museum of America (and was its the first custodian: 1935-49), which is, until now, the only one of its kind in both Americas. At first Kaczorowska published a collection of Haimans poems accompanied by a poetic biography - Herodotus of American Polonia as Poet (2005). The promotion of the title took place in 2005 in the United States, where she held numerous presentations; among others in The University of Loyola, Chicago, and The University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. On 31 May, 2007 Teresa Kaczorowska successively defended her thesis Mieczysław Haiman (1888-1949) Historian and the activist of the American Polonia and received the Doctor of Philosophy degree in Humanities. She wrote her thesis under the supervision of Prof. Izabella Rusinowa. This work has published in 2008 by Museum of the Polish Emigration Łazienki Królewskie in Warsaw (Herodotus of the American Polonia. Mieczysław Haiman (1888-1949).

A cultural animator. Kaczorowska is a co-founder of The Artists Association in Ciechanów, over which she presided for the first ten years (1988-1998). Since 11 January, 2001, she has been the president of The Polish Literary Association, the Ciechanów Division. A co-organizer of many yearly events in the region: The Autumn Poetry Event in Ciechanów, The Nation-wide Polish Poetry Contest “O Laur Opina” in Opinogóra, The Literary Spring in Gołotczyzna. In 2005 she initiated a new international literary event in Mazowsze - Christian Horace from Mazowsze (in Sarbiewo, Płońsk, Pułtusk, Rostków, Przasnysz, Mława and Ciechanów), dedicated to a famous but practically unknown Jesuit poet of the Baroque period - father Maciej Kazimierz Sarbiewski, a professor of Wilno Academy, poetry theoretician, and king Władysław IV Waza’s personal clergyman. She also published a monographic text “Maciej Kazimierz Sarbiewski SJ in Mazowsze” (2005) and helped establish The Association of Academia Europaea Sarbieviana, over which she has subsequently presided. AES was registered in KRS Warsaw on January 3rd, 2007, and is now home to regional writers, researchers and cultural animators from Poland and abroad. The association is located in the presbytery in Sarbiewo, in the Polish Horace’s hometown, and its statute aims to popularise the literary and scientific achievements of this baroque poet in Europe, historical and cultural traditions of the Polish Commonwealth as well as to co-operate with different Polish and international organisations in the fields of culture, literature and education. The biggest challenge for AES is, however, to rebuild the Sarbiewscy manor house, which might one day function as an international meeting place, educational centre and museum. The house would supplement the still existing baroque architectural monuments in Ciechanów; its church, presbytery and cemetery, which are going to be renovated soon.

An editor. Since 1999, Kaczorowska has been a co-editor of Ciechanowskie Zeszyty Literackie (Ciechanów Literary Notebooks). She has also edited a number of poetic almanacs, a regional biographic encyclopaedia, Kto jest kim w Ciechanowskiem (Who’s Who in Ciechanów, 1994), an album on poets and artists Twórcy…drzewa ziemi naszej (Artists… the Sole of our Land…,1995) , an anthology of Ciechanów poetry, Romantycznej ziemi czar (The Charm of the Land, 2003) and an anthology of young poets Młodzieńczy oddech (A Youthful Breath, 2006) .

Among her numerous distinctions and awards, there are: a medal from the Minister of Culture - “Zasłużony Działacz Kultury”; a prize from the President of the Ciechanów District (2000); an honorary award from Historical Monographs of Polonia, (Brussels 2003); an honorary award from Polish American Congress (Chicago 2005); „Złote Pióro” award (ZLP Ciechanów, 2004, 2006); “Przyjaciel Domu Kultury w Ciechanowie” (2006); a medal “Za Zasługi dla Ciechanowa” (2006), and the Edward Hulewicz Award (Warsaw, 2006), an Honorary Order from Polish Minister of Culture "Zasłużony dla Kultury Polskiej" (2007), Dr. Francis Rajkowski Award - the honorary title of "Ciechanowianin of the Year 2008", and from Polish President “Krzyż Kawalerski Orderu Odrodzenia Polski Polonia Restituta” (2010).
